Listen, don’t knock a hand-me-down bed frame! When you buy a frame or base from a reputable brand, that thing will last you decades if you look after it properly! In some cases you may even have a storage base, AKA a space-saving marvel, in the mix. Knowing this will help to narrow down your options straight off the bat.
Here's the skinny. Typically, heavy mattresses with lots of fillings should be paired with an upholstered base or a slatted base with a sheet board fitted onto it for the best support. Lighter mattresses or foam mattresses do well with slatted bases, provided that the gap is less than 2 cm apart.
