5 Signs You REALLY Need A New Mattress

Buying a mattress is a very grownup thing to do. Most of us tend to sleep on hand-me-downs until deep into our 20s (at least), simply because the idea of spending real money on something as basic as a mattress seems like a strange idea…
Until you spend a night on a proper mattress, that is! Or your back starts acting up, and your physio asks you about your bed situation.
Then, all of a sudden, buying a new mattress becomes something you seriously consider, and with good reason - it can 100% change your life! After all, the better we sleep, the better we function in all areas of our lives (science backs this up, FYI).
This, of course, begs the question - how do you know when you really need a new mattress? Here are five things to look out for if you suspect it’s time to make a trip to a good bed store:
1. Your Mattress Looks Wonky
Your mattress is not supposed to be sagging, asymmetrical or lumpy, friend. These are visible signs of disrepair that you should not ignore. So, if you notice sagging in the middle or at the corners, imprints of your body, lumps (big or small), or one side harder, softer, lower or smoother than the other, it's time to reinvest.
2. It's Noisy!
Guys, your inanimate objects should NOT be making noises. So if your mattress is creaking, growing or popping it's a clear red flag. This still goes when you are tossing and turning - springs and coils that are in good working order will not protest unless things are a little wacky under the hood.
3. Getting Comfortable Takes Some Doing
There are enough factors that can keep you up at night - don't let your sleeping surface be another one. If you find that you take quite a bit of time to get comfortable on your mattress at night, and have to move around a bit to find a suitable spot, it could well mean that your mattress has played its innings.
4. Your Allergies Are Acting Up
If you are getting up with a stuffy nose and watery eyes almost every morning, even outside of hayfever season, you could very well be dealing with dust mites and other allergens that build up inside older mattresses.
5. You’re Preferring the Couch
If you find yourself taking naps on the couch, or moving around the house at night looking for a comfy spot in your kids’ rooms or the spare bedroom, you might want to look at your mattress. After all, if it was giving you the support you needed, you wouldn’t be looking for it elsewhere…
