Unique Children Bedroom Furniture and Designs

August 15, 2014

Space is a rare commodity these days and is almost being reserved for the very rich in urban areas. This begs the question: do children really need large bedrooms separate from the main living areas or can space saving bunk beds and fold up beds be an easy solution for use in flats? Here are some clever ways to create amazing children’s beds while saving space.

Tip 1 - Get clever with carpentry

Perhaps you’ve got a carpenter in the family and you’d like to design your own frame and then use your budget to buy a comfortable hypoallergenic mattress (particularly if your children suffer from allergies). Some inspirational designs include suspending children’s twin bed frames from strong ropes to give it a nautical feel or building a built-in closet with a cavity to put a mattress on top of some storage drawers. Storage beds are also a great way to create extra storage space. For a classy design try the Oslo cabin bed.

Tip 2 - Get clever with ‘hybrid’ beds

Buy a triple bunk bed that can double up as a sofa and top bunk or can work as sleeping place for three. Even the popular double bunk beds are ideal for a family with two or more children or who often have guests staying over. Often you’ll have a choice of different fabric colours for the sofa part of the bed which will allow you to match it to your decor.

Tip 3 - Get clever with netting or canopies

If you have a seamstress in the house or you’re willing to shop around a bit you can buy some mosquito nets or canopies in beautiful designs that are made to look like castles or tree tops.

Perhaps you’re scaling down and need your children to share a room, or you’d like to convert one of the bedrooms into a study - well get your children on board because with some flexible children’s bedroom designs and a little imagination you can create a fun sleeping arrangement.
