Top Bedroom Designs with Sleigh Beds for 2014

Buying a sleigh bed is an effortless way to turn your bed into an elegant focal point and revamp your bedroom’s tired look. With sleigh beds increasing in popularity in South Africa, due to the range of options available, it has one thinking about what bedroom designs are a hit in 2014. Here are our top tips for pairing your new sleigh bed with the latest in extraordinary bedroom designs.

Hotel Chic

Our lives are increasingly becoming busy and there is a big movement around the world towards simplifying the things we can, such as our homes - it’s no longer a case of minimalism but simply a clean approach to living. That is why it’s understandable that hotel style bedrooms have started making an appearance in house and home magazines. In order to achieve this style you need to let in a lot of natural light, use plain sleigh beds or headboards and add a few simple touches of luxury such as rich striped curtains or a large plain mirror. For a touch of nature, add a few succulents or green leafy plants.

Understated Traditionalism

The great thing about a traditional room is that it is timeless by definition so you don’t need to keep revamping the main elements of your bedroom when fashions come and go. In order to achieve this look you need two important centrepieces: a traditional sleigh bed and a beautiful semi-ornate chandelier preferably in soft gold. If you want to complement this look with a cottage feel, opt for white-washed furniture such as pedestals and mirrors, and add some wicker furniture, white throws or a fluffy rug.

Blue and White Nautical Look

While you won’t be adding charts and brass dividers to your bedroom decor, using light blues, clean whites and a few touches of bold blues will make for a stylish bedroom. If you opt for the nautical look, choose a sleigh bed in white wood, then choose a monotone blue colour for your bedding, add a shaggy white rug and some patterned touches, such as continental pillows and throws in basic geometric patterns. Alternatively look for an antique sleigh bed with an engraved pattern and give it a modern lift with crisp blue and white bedding.

If you’re unsure of which look to go for in your bedroom, we suggest choosing a sleigh bed that both you and your partner like and using that as the starting point for your design. For example, if you choose a regal bed design, you may choose to keep that look consistent by choosing bedding in royal blues or scarlet reds.

The Bed King offers a wide range of sleigh bed frames including simple designs, a traditional solid wood range and more ornate options. All sleigh beds come with a choice of  mattresses and colours.
