Tired of Counting Sheep to Fall Asleep? Try this Cool Trick

When it comes to falling asleep, one of the most common methods people who struggle to fall asleep is to try count sheep. Sounds good right? But what does it actually work and  are there better ways to fall asleep?

The most common thought behind the effectiveness of counting sleep is that by focusing your mind on some mundane task you are able to clear your mind of everything else that could be worrying you and aid falling asleep. Sounds good - like meditation before bed. Except that some studies have suggested that counting sheep makes no difference whatsoever to the speed in which you fall asleep and there is no noticeable difference between those that count sheep before falling asleep and those who don’t.

This doesn’t mean that counting sheep is a bad idea - there are many people who swear by it and other similar methods of falling asleep such as visualizing walking down tranquil paths in a forest while they count the number of trees or birds singing or sitting on the beach and counting the waves that come in. While some of these methods might sound to be hard work, they are surprisingly effective not only in helping you fall asleep, but also in relaxing the mind.

So how do you take counting sheep to the next level? Simple, rather than just counting the sheep, trees or waves, rather focus on your breathing while counting and count down from 100. Each time you exhale count down by one - this can be tricky at first, but it is highly effective.

There are more complicated options for those who are up for it such as counting only evens, odds or primes. For the really weird, try counting up in binary. While these methods might work for some, they can be a little frustrating for the rest of us who will settle for just the basic counting sheep between breaths.

If you are still struggling to fall asleep, look at getting a new Serta Mattress. With so many great and comfortable mattresses on offer it is not surprising that the Serta Sheep are unemployed.
