How to prepare your guest room for December guests

December 03, 2019

Top tips on preparing your space for vacationing guests

Getting ready to receive guests over the holidays? The festive season is a lovely time of joy and togetherness, and welcoming relatives and friends into your home is such a privilege. It does, however, call for some extra preparation if you wish to have everything ready when your guests arrive on your doorstep in the midst of the silly season. Here are a few top tips on preparing your guest bedroom for December guests:

HOW TO GET YOUR GUEST BEDROOM READY FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS GUESTS

Consider your linen situation

Depending on how long your guests will be staying, you ideally want enough linen to change it every 3 - 5 days. Check to make sure that you have enough linen in rotation to keep things on an even keel throughout the wash cycle. Additionally, you may want to put out a selection of lighter and heavier blankets and/or throws that visitors can layer on if it gets a little nippy.

Check the temperature in the room

Summertime in South Africa can get pretty warm. If your guest bedroom does not have an air-conditioner or ceiling fan, consider investing in a standing fan that you can use elsewhere in your home when you don’t have guests. Also put out some mozzie spray and/or citronella candles while you’re at it to keep those pesky mosquitos at bay.

Spend a night in the bed

Before your guests arrive, you may want to spend a night sleeping in the bed yourself to see if your mattress, pillows and duvet are all still in the condition that you would like them to be. This first-hand experience will give you a good idea if you need to purchase some new bedding or consider a new mattress.

Add little extra touches

A few magazines, a vase of fresh flowers and a little dish of mints or candy are always nice additions to any guest bedroom to make your visitors feel extra welcome.
