How many hours of sleep equal a good night’s rest?

September 28, 2012

Sleep is an essential part of everyday life, but thanks to the pressures of modern lifestyles many of us do not get enough. In fact the average adult sleeps for less than 7 hours a night and even though most people think that this is more than enough, the reality is that they are often suffering from chronic sleep deprivation.

Sleep requirements vary from person to person, but the average healthy adult still needs between 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep every night if they are to perform at their peak. Children and teenagers need even more and despite the view that as we get older we need less sleep the truth is older people also need about 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep per night.
