Magical bedtime stories for the holidays

It’s the most wonderful time of the year (tralalalala!). All around the globe, families are gearing up for the festive season and getting ready to delight their children with all sorts of wonderful holiday surprises. To get you in the spirit, we’ve made a list of all our favourite bedtime stories that we turn to over the Christmas season. Introduce it at bedtime and see how your children’s faces light up as they too start to feel the singular magic and fascination of the end-of-the-year jollies!

The Elf on the Shelf

The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition is a children's picture book, written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell, and illustrated by the very talented Coë Steinwart in 2005. The book tells a Christmas-themed story, written in rhyme, which explains how on earth Santa Claus knows who is naughty and who is nice throughout the year. It tells how his elves visit children between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, after which they return to the North Pole until the next holiday season.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

This classic Dr Seuss book puts a different spin on the classic Christmas tale. Told in rhymed verse with illustrations by the author, this much-loved story follows the Grinch, a grouchy, solitary creature who attempts to put an end to Christmas by stealing Christmas-themed items from the homes of the nearby town Whoville on Christmas Eve. However, despite his best efforts, Whoville's citizens still celebrate the holiday, so the Grinch returns everything that he stole and is the guest of honor at the Whos' Christmas dinner. Feel-good fuzzies at its best!

A Christmas Carol

If there ever was a classic Christmas tale, this is the one! Charles Dickens may be a little bit of a heavy read for the toddler crowd, but if you have tweens and pre-teens in the house, this is just the ticket. It tells the story of mean-spirited, miserly old man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is in turn visited by the ghosts of Christmas past and future, to remind him to change his ways and embrace the beautiful spirit of the holidays.

While you’re getting ready to read all these wonderful holiday stories to the little ones in your life, it might also be time to consider a bedding update, so everyone is nice and comfy when you tuck them in at night. Bed King has a wonderful range of high-quality bedding to the keep the whole family cosy this festive season. Happy holidays, everyone!
