Going Beyond the Bed Bedroom Guide Part 2: Bases

The first part of this Going Beyond the Bed Bedroom Guide focused on selecting the best headboard for your room. This time we are going to be focusing more on the most important part of your bed next to the mattress: the base.

As anybody will tell you, the best way to achieve something is to have a good base, and if you want a good night's sleep then you are definitely going to need a good bed base!

Bases:

There are three major types of bed bases: divan beds, bedsteads and storage beds.

  • Divan Beds

Divan beds are the most commonly used bed bases. They are usually sold as part of base and mattress package. While they are perfectly functional, they can be a bit boring if you are attempting to transform your bedroom. Where they are great however it their versitility with regard to Bed Wraps which allow quick and easy colour transformations of the bedroom.

  • Bedsteads

Unlike divan beds which normally have a solid base, bedsteads have a slatted frame that is either made up from metal or wood. The come in a variety of designs, colours and textures to match any bedroom theme.

For a warm and tradtional bedroom, try this classic Cassandra Sleigh Bed or this one with slatted headboard and foot-end features.

  • Storage Beds

If space is limited or you like to have things put away, you should try a storage bed. These beds have additional storage compartments built into the base. They are perfect for storing spare linen in spare rooms or for toys in children’s bedrooms.

If you are looking for a good storage bed for your spare room try this Oslo 2 Drawer Cabin Bed which is perfect for smaller spare rooms that are infrequently used, or for more frequently used rooms Hideaway 2 Drawer Cabin Bed. If you are looking for a larger bed with storage space try the Drawer Upholstered Storage Base which has drawers on both sides of the bed.

Or if you want somewhere to store toys in the kids’ room try this.

Looking for something different? Looking for a classic four poster bed? Try this Princes 4 Poster Bed Frame which is perfect for larger bedrooms where you want to create a sense of elegance and style.

Everything in life needs a good base, get yours here. Next time we will be looking at pedestals, tables and dressing tables.
