Amazing and Unusual Places to Sleep

When you think about amazing places, unusual or interesting places that you might sleep would you ever have imagined a glass panelled igloo or an airplane suspended in a tree top? These are not sets on extravagant movies or ideas from some far fetched fiction. No, not at all. Today, thanks to the vision and imagination (and money) of some very creative people there are a so many weird, wonderful, unusual and very imaginative ways to spend a few nights of your holiday.

We have compiled a list of five of our favourites:

1. We all live in a yellow submarine

Well, actually it’s not yellow. But you can live on this submarine or at least experience a romantic luxury, undisturbed getaway. Named Lover’s Deep, it is an underwater villa for two, with a crew of three. This incredible experience Lover’s Deep is a submarine that is operated by a company called Oliver’s Travels. This very high end experience takes place on a specially adapted sub, that is furnished to the tastes of each different set of guests - this truly is a tailormade experience for two. You and your partner are the only guests, serviced by a private chef and butler, while the captain plots the course. The course is also determined by you, so whether you want to dive down into the depths of the Red Sea or follow a Pacific fault line, it’s up to you and your captain to determine.

2. Sky high

From ocean deep to up in the clouds. The Costa Verde Resort in Cost Rica is the home of the our next destination. Fifty feet up in the forest canopy, set on a concrete plinth you will find the converted 1965 boeing 727. Totally transformed into the ultimate honeymoon suite, what was previously a South African air carrier, and later used by Avianca Airlines, is now a lavish luxury experience for newlyweds, or anyone else seeking the thrill of the skies.

3. The tip of the iceberg

If you are looking to harness your inner explorer and experience some of the planet’s most extreme conditions then this is for you. But make sure you pack warmly! The SV Noordelicht is an old Dutch schooner that travels the icy seas of the Arctic. This white wilderness might seem uninviting, but aboard this boat you will be more than comfortable. Fitted to accommodate 20 passengers, the SV Noodelicht offers its guests luxury and warmth while experiencing the white wonderland of the Arctic in undisturbed, uninterrupted splendour. Whether you are whale watching, searching for the ever elusive Arctic Fox or simply marvelling the walruses, seals and polar bears you are guaranteed to be doing it in style.

4. There was an old lady a who lived in a shoe

I bet you thought that was just a nursery rhyme. Well, in New Zealand you can experience first hand what it is like to go to bed in a boot. Cute, quaint and extremely out there, The Boot is a warm and cozy experience and one that will not be found anywhere else in the world. Located in the heart of the Tasman region, The Boot offers guests a the perfect romantic getaway.

5. An igloo under the stars

Finland's Urho Kekkonen National Park is the location of this luxury igloo resort. Glass panelled, thermal igloos allow guests to sleep under the stars and marvel and the wonders of the Northern Lights, while warmly tucked up in bed. Hotel Kakslauttanen offers guests a view of the Aurora Borealis like no other. Free from light pollution, nature’s most impressive light show is one to behold. And for those moments when guests are not transfixed by the dancing stars in the cozy comfort of their igloos, there is the world’s largest smoke sauna to unwind in, followed by a drink in the ice bar.

Whether you are looking for an underwater adventure, a star gazing extravaganza or to join the mile high club there are some very weird and wonderful places to rest your head that are not your ordinary hotel experience. And with such variety out there, there really is something for everyone.

Well, you might not opt for sleeping in strange places, but make sure you sleep comfortably! And since The Bed King has a ‘lowest-price-guarantee’, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg either!
