Ten Ways to Get Cosy this Winter

July 17, 2017

Warm up your bedroom this winter with these ten top tips

Despite the fact that summer clothes have hit the shelves at all the big shops, we are still well and truly in the grips of winter. Dark mornings, shorter days and that icy cold bite in the air are all reasons to create a warm, cosy and comfy bedroom where you can snuggle up and seek refuge from the low temperatures.

With a little bit of imagination, you can create a winter wonderland that will make you wish for rainy days. You don’t have to rush out and hire an interior designer or break the bank, with just a few small tweaks you can transform your bedroom into a space that provides an escape from the wintery weather, where you can chase those winter blues away.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Snuggle up under a big fluffy blanket or a down duvet. Not only will it look warm and inviting, but when you are tucked up you don’t need to worry about your toes getting cold.
  2. Tiled and wooden floors can be a bit cold. But the addition of a rug, or several rugs, not only keep your feet from freezing on the cold ground but also softens and creates an illusion of warmth.
  3. Soft, subtle lighting can be a real game changer. Warm white light bulbs can really transform a space from cold and lifeless into warm and inviting.
  4. The use of natural woods can warm up a room. Instead of modern metal furniture opt for warm, natural materials.
  5. Soft furnishings really do warm up a space – it is amazing what you can achieve with the right piece of fabric. An armchair or ottoman upholstered in fabric that is rich in texture or has a colourful pattern can add character, but also a sense of warmth too.
  6. Something as simple as curtains can make a huge difference. They keep the warmth in and when they are closed you feel like you are wrapped in a cosy cocoon, safe from the chilled night air. Now, you might think that this is an expensive addition, but it doesn’t have to be. With more and more shops stocking good quality readymade curtains you really can’t go wrong!
  7. Slippers and a dressing gown are essential accessories for any cosy bedroom. There is nothing better than warm feet and a soft comfy gown.
  8. Textured layers create a real sense of opulence and warmth. A faux fur throw on the bed, a quilted bedspread, soft velvety scatter cushions. You really can play around with textures and even patterns to create a rich, layered look that is inviting and snug.
  9. Choose a warm colour palette. Neutral colours are best with a spot colour that will brighten up the space.
  10. Maximise your natural light. If there is very little natural light you might want to consider a skylight. Even on the coldest days, a little bit of sunshine can really brighten things up and warm them up too.

Whether you simply add a furry rug or go all out and build a cosy corner where you can while away the cold winter days and the dark winter nights, creating a bedroom where you can escape the chills, snuggle up and really take refuge from frozen temperatures is easy and affordable.
