The Best Winter Pre-Bed Activities

Getting ready for bed in winter in a cold bedroom is often characterized by quick jumping into pjs and then crawling into a fetal position in bed to trap maximum heat. But there are a few tricks to ensure that not only is your bed warm before your climb into it, but that you are also more relaxed and sleep better.

Hot Bath:

Climbing into a relaxing and soothing hot bath just before bed in winter will not only relax you, but it will also warm you up enough that climbing into bed will be a pleasure. If you don't intent to jump directly into bed after a bath it is essential that you wrap yourself up warm again. Get your partner to quickly tumble dry your pjs before you climb out of the bath for maximum comfort! You should also think about getting a thick bathrobe - not only are they super warm, but they are also really comfortable. You can even wear them in bed while your read or watch TV at night.

A Hot Cuppa:

There is nothing more relaxing than a hot cup of chocolate or milo before you climb into bed. Especially if there are marshmallows on it!  Take a look at these amazing recipes on Pinterest. If you don't have a sweet tooth, try a cup of herbal tea to warm you up and relax you.

Prepare Your Bedroom:

Keeping your bedroom warm is vital during winter (You can read our other blog about some simple tricks here). When it come to the bed itself you should try to keep your bed away from a wall, especially the head of the bed. If you bed is directly against a wall it will be slightly colder. Use a headboard to prevent cold from creeping from the wall onto your head at night.

You can also use layers of blankets before you jump into bed. This will help you to warm your bed up quickly and you have the option to throw off a blanket if needed during the night. If it gets really cold, put a fluffy blanket underneath your duvet as this keep the warmth in better.

Get bedding that is made from cotton or wool as this will keep you warm during winter. (In summer look for fabrics such as linen to keep cool.) You should also ensure that your duvet inner is winter suitable and has a high TOG rating.

Preheat:

Of course the easiest way to ensure that your bed is warm when you jump into it is to have an electric blanket or hot water bottle! Or even better get your partner to warm it up for you before you jump into bed!
