Established in North Yorkshire in 1949 by Tom and Joan Clarke, Clarke’s Mattresses Limited was borne. For the next five years the Clarke’s would build a brand that was to become synonymous with high quality, affordable sleeping solutions. The beds and mattresses produced by Clarke’s Mattresses Limited grew in reputation and popularity, and in 1951 the company changed its name to Silentnight Limited, and moved to larger premises so that production could be increased to meet the growing demand for these wonderfully comfortable beds.

The brand grew from strength to strength, and the company’s reputation grew. So much so that in 1979 the then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, opened the Silentnight showroom.
