Dress Your Nest: Set the Scene for Romance this Valentine’s Day

February 07, 2018

Dial up the romance with our interior tips on V-Day 2018!

It’s that time of year when love is in the air whether you like it or not. Let’s be honest - Valentine’s Day can be a bit much with all the hearts and flowers and schmaltzy love songs all over the show, but it’s also a great time to show your partner that you still <3 them very much. If you’re only reading this now, chances that you’re going to get a decent table at a restaurant for V-day is pretty much zero, so we thought we’d share a few ideas about how you can set the scene for romance in the comfort of your very own bedroom. Here goes!

Get Some Grown-Up Linen

Still sleeping under the linen you first bought when you moved out of your parent’s house? It’s time for a change! Nothing says ‘hey, I’m super romantic and extremely appealing’ quite like a set of 100% cotton percale lucerne linen. It feels so luxurious, and (best of all!) cotton breathes very well, so it’s perfect for summers in sunny South Africa. TOP TIP: If you’re a married man, coming home with something as thoughtful as luxurious linen is going to earn you brownie points like you would not believe. She will never see it coming!

Make A Move With Mood Lighting

You know what’s never sexy? Bright fluorescent lighting. If you want to dial up the romance, your best bet is to steer clear of the overhead lights, and light a few candles instead. If you are a) scared of creating a fire hazard, or b) concerned that it might end up looking like a Meatloaf music video, opt for some fairy lights or throw a shawl or pretty piece of fabric in a warm colour (pink, orange) over your bedside lamp.

Use Some Common Scents

The nose may not be one of the most frequently cited sexy body parts, but it actually plays a very big role in how romantic your partner will feel upon entering a room. Every person’s favourite smell differs. For some it might be rose geranium, for others mint or musk. A good way to tell what your partner may like is to find out which note lies at the core of their favourite perfume. Look up the name online or visit a perfume counter to find out what the base note of their daily fragrance is, and attempt to recreate it with a room mist or essential oil diffuser.

Follow these guidelines and se the scene for romance in your bedroom this Valentine’s Day. While you’re at - check if that mattress is up to scratch. Your partner is more likely to enjoy restful sleep and awake refreshed if you mattress provides adequate support. Start 2018 off the right way - indulge in a new sleeping surface; you’ll be amazed at how big a difference it makes!
