Bed King Busts Mattress Myths!

It has been said that buying a mattress is a lot like purchasing a new car, as comparing prices, features and brands can be time consuming thanks to the multitude of variables that are part and parcel of both purchasing experiences. Busted Myth 1: You Need to Replace Your Mattress Every 8 Years

It is true that the Better Sleep Council has suggested that a mattress is replace every 7 to 10 years, but in our experience the life of a mattress can vary widely and depends on factors such as the quality of the mattress, the type of mattress, how well the mattress is taken care of, how the mattress is utilised, and how often it is rotated. Remember, if in doubt about your mattress you need to ask yourself one simple question - Do I feel well rested and pain free after sleeping on my mattress? If you consistently have to answer no to this question, then maybe it is time to consider purchasing a new mattress from Bed King!

Busted Myth 2: A Firm Mattress is What is Needed for the Best Back Support

The fact is the right mattress for you might not necessarily be the right mattress for others! This is because you need a mattress that conforms to your bodies favorite sleeping position, which in turn helps the body to relax at night and provide healing, regenerative sleep. To this end, there are three comfort and support levels that we suggest you ask our knowledgeable Bed King Staff about:

  • Soft mattresses - These mattresses usually conform to a person's body shape, but in many instances they might not offer uniform support across your entire body.
  • Medium firm mattresses - This popular type of mattress delivers equally on conformability and support, and is very good at alleviating pressure point pain in almost all people.
  • Very firm mattresses - Although not the first choice mattress for many people, these types of mattresses offer good support but in most cases not as much conformability as the previous two mattress types

Busted Myth 3: A Good Mattress Prevents Tossing and Turning

Tossing and turning at night is a natural reaction that starts occurring in humans from as young an age as 4 months. It is an instinctively learnt reaction that helps us to alleviate pressure point pain while we are sleeping and reduce any stress or strain encountered on our backs and joints while we sleep. A good quality mattress will never stop this natural sleep movement completely, but it will REDUCE tossing and turning thanks to the fact that stress and strain on our backs and joints is also reduced.
