Five Things to Consider When Buying a New Mattress

January 22, 2016

What to Consider When Buying a New Mattress

There is nothing worse than a bad night’s sleep. It sets the tone for the entire day, and leaves you feeling flat and out of sorts. Imagine an endless stream of nights without sleep. Sounds like hell.

This can be a reality if you are sleeping on the wrong mattress. We spend approximately one third of our lives sleeping, so it is absolutely vital that we get the best quality sleep we can, and one of the ways of achieving this by ensuring that our beds are a haven of comfort.

Here are 5 tips to consider:

1) Know when it’s time for a new mattress

With a third of your life spent in bed, it stands to reason that the mattress you sleep on will eventually need replacing. The springs go, it begins to sink and sag, it is softens and loses support. This can be the cause of many sleepless nights and physical discomfort. Be aware of how your bed feels, and keep track of how long you’ve had that mattress. Maybe it’s time for a new one?

2) Research

It is very important to do your homework before you go out and buy a new mattress. There are so many online resources today that will assist you when it comes to brand research. With so much information available it can sometimes be overwhelming, so it is also important to get firsthand knowledge: speak to people – your friends, your doctor, your chiropractor.

3) Take the time to lie down

It is absolutely essential that, when shopping for a mattress, you lie on it. Spend at least 15 minutes in the shop testing out the mattress. Move around, get your partner to move around. Lie still, get up, lie down again. While this by no means simulates a full night spent on the mattress, it will give you an idea of what it feels like. At Bed King, we understand that it takes more than a few minutes to determine if a mattress is the right fit, so we do offer our customers 24 hours peace of mind. What this means is that if after your first night’s sleep you are not happy with the bed you can return or exchange it - terms and conditions do apply. Ask in store for more details.

4) Returns, Guarantees and Warranties

While testing the mattress in the shop will give you some indication of comfort and suitability, it by no means guarantees a good night’s sleep – only after several nights of sleeping on the mattress will you really know if it’s the right fit. At Bed King we offer our customers the chance to return any items provided they meet the terms and conditions set out by our Returns Department. As far as guarantees and warranties go, these are issued by the individual manufacturers. The members of our experienced sales team will be able to advise you further.

5) Trust the experts

Make sure you buy your mattress from a reputable, knowledgeable establishment. At Bed King, we are proud to say that we stock a wide range of mattress brands, and have a trusted team with years of expertise and experience to help you sleep better at night. Contact us now for more information.
